MY CHILDHOOD's EASTER

Tomorrow is Easter and I have always loved it. When I was a child my mother cooked a lot of eggs and put them in bowls with different colors. There were red, green, yellow, and blue. When they were dyed she made them shiny with a piece of bacon. For this work of course I liked to help. There also were wax sticks in different colors with which you painted on still quite hot eggs making little dots and using different colors. The result was multi colored eggs.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a photo of an egg colored with wax sticks.

When on Easter morning I had found all my real colored eggs together with chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs, I put the colored eggs in a little basket and ran out to play with the other kids our Easter games. The once I remember was letting roll an egg down a hill and the owner of the egg which wasn't broken was the winner and got from each player an unbroken (of course) egg ! The other one was kicking two eggs together and the winner again was the one whose egg had survived. Sometimes I came home with so many eggs that my mother sent me away to give them to other children !

I did the same of course with our son. I decorated the house with bunnies and little fluffy yellow chicks, Easter bunnies and a bouquet of branches with blown out colored eggs (later plastic once) little bunnies and all kind of easter decoration. (This year's decoration is below)

our eggs this year ! I put them in a triangle for Photo Hunters.

When I moved to Belgium the easter traditions were completely different. I wrote about it last year here on my old blog. No bunnies, no eggs, but bells and fishes !

Today of course it's the same. Easter egg hunts are oraganized in all cities and you see bunnies everywhere ! But the eggs are still brought by the bells of Rome !

This year I didn't do much Easter decoration, because we are only the two of us. Maybe some friends will pop in but nothing special is foreseen. But I didn't want to be without any decoration especially it's one of my hobbies to decorate. So that's what I have done !

FUN MONDAY - Summer Vacation

Patience wants to know

How I'll Spend My Summer Vacation!

Good question ! As I am on vacation the whole year, I don't choose the summer school holidays for my vaction, I will go end May on a roundtrip through the South of Morocco, during 12 days.
The country is so beautiful and I love red rocks and dunes and want to see the Sahara.

SOUTH MOROCCO: a country of golden sandhills
and kasbahs and fortified villages, with its oases
and thousands of palmtrees hidden in the mountains. A country of mirages and miracles
with its small and bright towns and voluptuous and
unexpectedly fresh oases springing amidst barren and
dreary areas.

Next comes Italy together with Mr. Gattino. As usual we are going end June for 10 days to the Garda Lake to visit family and friends.

End July I will go back again for a week to my summer school like last year. Maybe again for photography or just for painting. This is not yet sure.

In August I will visit my friend in Eastbourne at the South East coast in England which I do each year. This time I will be able to see the air show which takes place in Eastbourne and apparently is very nice to watch.

November/December I will go back to Egypt to the red sea, for 2 weeks to fill me in with sunshine which helps me over the winter, until I get my travel fever again !

MY WEEKLY WINNER - BLOGFRIEND VISIT

More participants here at Sarcastic Mom Weekly winners

My weekly winner pictures this week are without any doubt the visit I had from Diane coming from Norway together with her husband Rennie who was in Brussels for a buisiness meeting, so I didn't see him.

We had better things to do ! Diane took the train from Brussels to Waterloo, which only takes 25 min and I picked her up at the station. We recognized each other immediately and it was so much fun to meet her life.

First thing we did, we drove to the historical place of the Waterloo Battle and had a coffee and chatted and chatted and chatted .........

Photobucket

Then we bought our tickets to visit the Lion and the Panorama of the battle.

The little tourist train was still empty and waiting for visitors to come

Diane decided to go up a few steps so that I could take a picture. But ten steps later she decided to climb all 253 steps up to the Lion and have a look over the battle fields. I had done this before several times and was too lazy. I watched her climbing !

and up she was !

and then the whole way down !

After the Lion we visited the panorama. It is very well done because you stand in the middle and around you the battle goes on with the sounds of the battle, arms, horses and screams.

and here we are in the middle of the battle field !

To make a little break in our touristic tour, we went to my home and had a little snack.

Photobucket

After that I took Diane to my favourite junk store, where we had quite some fun with all these nice or funny or strange things which are sold here.

Finally Diane decided to buy an antique coffee pot and a Madonna.

Photobucket

Then we visited the center of Waterloo and had the last coffee besides the Wellington museum in an old Tavern.

Time went by so fast in good company that we didn't even realize that it was already past 5 pm
and she had to go !

It was the first time I met a blogfriend and it really was very nice day ! Internet is finally a great invention, we would never have met without our blogs.
